About MORE THAN GARDENS

Ecological landscaping rooted in science, stewardship, and respect for nature.

MORE THAN GARDENS is an ecological landscape design and land care company based on Long Island, NY, dedicated to creating landscapes that are beautiful, resilient, and environmentally restorative. We believe outdoor spaces should do more than look good — they should support biodiversity, protect natural resources, and strengthen the relationship between people and the land they steward.

Founded by Agatha Martello, a conservation biologist and ecological landscape designer, More Than Gardens brings scientific knowledge and hands-on experience together to redefine modern landscaping. Agatha’s background in conservation biology and landscape ecology informs every project, ensuring that each design is grounded in ecological function, not trends.

We are proud to be:

NOFA-NY Verified for Organic Land Care, ensuring all practices meet rigorous organic and ecological standards

Certified by the Audubon Society, supporting bird-friendly, habitat-focused landscapes

A zero-emissions focused company, committed to reducing environmental impact wherever possible

Our work emphasizes native and climate-adapted plants, living soils, organic land care, and regenerative systems that evolve naturally over time. From residential gardens to larger ecological projects, we approach every site as a living system — considering soil health, water movement, wildlife habitat, and long-term resilience.

At MORE THAN GARDENS, we don’t see ourselves as traditional landscapers. We are stewards, designers, and educators, helping clients make informed decisions that benefit both their property and the broader ecosystem.

Our mission is simple:

to create landscapes that give more back than they take.

Our Ecological Approach

We specialize in ecological landscape design, organic lawn care, native plantings, rain gardens, erosion control, and regenerative land management across Long Island and the greater New York region. Our methods prioritize soil biology, water conservation, pollinator support, and long-term sustainability — creating landscapes that are healthier, lower-maintenance, and more resilient to climate stress.
